Fourth Cross-strait Symposium on Pesticide Management held in Xi'an
     
 
The 4th Cross-strait Symposium on Pesticide Management was held in Xi'an of Shaanxi Province from Sept.9 to 13, 2013.
 
Over 50 delegates attended the Symposium, including representatives from Department of Crop Production of MOA, ICAMA, Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ) of Taiwan, Taiwan Agricultural Chemicals and Toxic Substances Research Institute under the Council of Agriculture (TACTRI/COA), Department of Agriculture of Shaanxi Province, Shaanxi ICA, and a number of agro-chemical academies and businesses.
 
 
In his speech at the opening ceremony, DDG Chen Youquan of Department of Crop Production highlighted the significance and broad prospects of cross-strait communication on pesticide management. He expected that Chinese mainland and Taiwan could promote the exchange of pesticide management and technological advancement to a new height in the context of agricultural trade boom between the two sides.
 
DG of ICAMA Sui Pengfei also addressed the Symposium and noted that the cross-strait communication on pesticide management should closely stick to current hot issues, such as agricultural development and trade expansion; agro-product quality & safety and other major social concerns; pesticide technological and management progresses and personnel training; and pesticide industry upgrading and trade order adjustment. It is believed that with joint efforts, the pesticide industry of both sides will gain remarkable achievements in an all-round way.
Sui also said that he is looking forwards to conducting pragmatic cooperation and continuing the robust and sincere partnership with his Taiwan counterparts.
At the Symposium, delegates from both sides made presentations on the latest development of pesticide registration, good practices of market regulation,   MRLs setting, pesticide import and export administration, and so on. The delegates also shared expertise on bio-pesticide registration management, crop categorization, and cracking down counterfeit pesticide products. In addition, they discussed the possibility of signing a MOU on cross-strait pesticide management and technology cooperation, and the likelihood of carrying out joint review programs.
The two sides put forward proposals on broadening exchange and cooperation in the future.
 
In the conclusion speech, DDG of ICAMA Gu Baogen stated that at the fourth Symposium of its kind, representatives conducted deep-going exchanges and down-to-earth discussions, and generated fruitful results in a friendly atmosphere.
Gu hoped that future symposium sessions will involve wider ranged and more targeted topics with diversified communication forms, so as to lift the pesticide management and technical level of both sides, provide better service to agricultural production and better protection to agro-product quality & safety, and facilitate the development of the whole pesticide industry.
 
 
After the Symposium, the Taiwan delegation paid field visits in the companion of Chief Agronomist of ICAMA Ji Ying, to Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University, Yangling Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park, Sunger Pesticide Company, and a number of pesticide outlets in Zhouzhi County of Shaanxi Province.  (Source: Division of International Communication & Service, ICAMA)
